Five New Datasets Released: New Zealand; Australia; Solana Beach, CA TLS; and Sonora, Mexico SFM

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of five new international datasets covering areas on both sides of the Pacific. Two of the datasets cover portions of the Wellington and Hope Faults in New Zealand, and were collected by NZ Aerial Mapping with funding from GNS Science (NZ), University Joseph Fourier (France), and Agence Nationale de la Recherche (France). A third, collected near the Burdekin River, Australia by Airborne Research Australia, offers point densities much greater than typical airborne lidar due to atypical overlapping flight grids.

Reprocessed version of the B4 Lidar - Southern San Andreas and San Jacinto Faults - Dataset Released

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of a reprocessed version of the “B4” lidar dataset covering the southern San Andreas and San Jacinto faults in California, USA, that enables differentiation between bare ground surfaces and the objects and vegetation above the surface. Since they were originally released in 2005 these data have provided a fundamental resource for the study of active faulting in southern California.

Come connect with OpenTopography at the 2017 American Geophysical Union meeting in New Orleans! OpenTopography will be in booth #1730 on "NSF Street" in the exhibit hall. The booth is shared with the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM). Our booth is staffed by the OpenTopography team and community members, and is a great chance to ask questions, provide feedback, or to discuss lidar, high resolution topography, and cyberinfrastructure.

OpenTopography Advisory Committee Seeks Student Member

OpenTopography is guided by an advisory committee which represents OpenTopography users and partners and provides valuable input on decisions related to OpenTopography priorities for data ingestion, interoperability relationships, algorithm and tool deployment, collaborations, and education and community engagement. We seek a graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) to join the advisory committee and represent the interests of young scientists who interact with OpenTopography.

McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica lidar now available

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of lidar point cloud and DEM data covering 2,775.65 km2 of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica. Lidar was collected in the austral summer of 2014-2015 with the objective of studying geomorphic changes over the past decade. The study area includes the McMurdo Dry Valleys (Taylor, Pearse, Wright, Victoria, Mckelvey, Barwick, and Valham valleys, and Bull Pass) and nearby McMurdo Station and Scott Base.
