A new Structure from Motion (SfM) dataset comprising well georeferenced, high-resolution topography and orthomosaics for part of the Lost River fault zone, Idaho has been released. The dataset was collected by Dr. Michael Bunds and Christopher DuRoss from May 2015 - May 2016 and covers ~6.1 km of surface rupture from the the Mw 6.9 1983 Borah Peak Earthquake. Point clouds and digital surface models (DSMs) were generated from low-altitude aerial photographs using Structure-from-Motion and multi-view stereo processing. This dataset compliments the Lost River Fault Zone Near Borah Peak, Idaho... more
Access lidar via an OT+ subscription (for non-academic users).
This subscription provides access to lidar topography covering most of the US mainland, Hawaii, and territories as well as satellite data over the Arctic and Antarctic. This includes access to the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and NOAA Coastal Lidar.
New datasets are being continually added to the USGS 3DEP Amazon Web Services (AWS) bucket. If you are a U.S. academic, you can gain access to this valuable dataset through OpenTopography! Since August 2020, the coverage has increased by an additional 175 datasets, or 4.4... more

OpenTopography invites you to join us for a live webinar on Monday November 16 at 2 EST/11 PST on seamless access to the USGS’s 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) lidar datasets via OpenTopography. Learn how to discover and integrate 3DEP... more
OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new lidar datasets covering New Zealand's capital Wellington, as well as the Banks Peninsula. The dataset, "Wellington City, New Zealand 2019" has an average point spacing of over 20 pts/m2 and covers Wellington and its surrounding areas. The dataset, "Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, New Zealand 2018" was collected for Environment Canterbury Regional Council and covers the Banks Peninsula. These datasets are available through on ongoing collaboration between OpenTopography and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), that makes OpenTopography... more
OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of a new lidar dataset covering approximately 230 km2 covering Cedar Mesa and Bears Ears National Monument, Utah (Shash Jáa Unit). This dataset was collected for a study to explore the dynamic impacts of environmental change and biomass harvesting on woodland ecosystems and traditional livelihoods. Data was collected by NCALM, an NSF-funded center that supports the use of airborne laser mapping technology (a.k.a. lidar) in the scientific community and is jointly operated by the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Cullen... more
OpenTopography is pleased to release a structure-from-motion small Uncrewed Aerial System (sUAS) dataset that covers 3 km2 along the creeping section of the central San Andreas fault. This dataset was collected in October 2017 by Michael Bunds and Nathan Toke from Utah Valley University, Chelsea Scott from Arizona State University, and several undergraduate students in Utah Valley University’s Geospatial Field Methods course. This dataset was collected to perform topographic differencing with the 2007 EarthScope Northern California airborne lidar dataset.

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new lidar datasets covering over 10,000 km2 of New Zealand. The dataset covering Auckland on the North Island was collected August 2016 to August 2018 and covers the following areas: Auckland CBD, Great Barrier Island, Little Barrier Island, North Shore, Waiheke Island, Wellsford, Whangaparaoa, and Whatipu. The Canterbury region dataset over the South Island was collected between March 2018 and May 2019 and covers the following regions: Amuri Plain, Ashburton, Fairlie Foothills, Pegasus, Motunau, Selwyn North, Selwyn South and Waimate.... more
OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new NCALM lidar datasets. The first is an NCALM Seed Dataset collected for Nate Mitchell at Indiana University, Bloomington. These data were used in a study to measure variations in bedrock cliff morphologies along Boulder Creek, northwest of Salmon, Idaho. The second dataset covers a 2013 landslide adjacent to Salsipuedes Bay, in Baja California, Mexico as well as Punta Morro, where Ensenada's science cluster is located, hosting the campuses of CICESE, UNAM and UABC. These datasets were collected by NCALM, an NSF-funded center that... more
OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of four new NCALM Seed datasets covering areas of California, and one hurricane rapid response project in Texas. These datasets were collected by NCALM, an NSF-funded center that supports the use of airborne laser mapping technology (a.k.a. lidar) in the scientific community and is jointly operated by the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston and the Department of Earth and Planetary Science, University of California, Berkeley. OpenTopography is the primary distributor of... more
We have recently migrated hosting of OpenTopography’s bulk data from the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) data storage cloud (OpenStack Object Storage) to their Universal Scale Storage (USS) service offering. USS is a managed service of Qumulo’s hybrid cloud file storage provided by SDSC that offers better performance and is highly scalable. Migration of OpenTopography’s bulk storage to the USS service improves overall security, enables detailed usage metrics while lowering operational expenses. USS also supports multiple pathways of access including via S3 interface.
