Lidar data covering 129 km2 of the Nature Conservancy's Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve at Point Conception, California has been released on OpenTopography. The Preserve protects over eight miles of near-pristine coastline and rare connected coastal habitat in Santa Barbara County. In 2018, Aeroptic, LLC, worked with The Nature Conservancy and ESRI to capture aerial lidar over the Preserve.   Find the data here: Lidar Survey of Dangermond Preserve, CA Slider image showing ground classified points colored by elevation (left) and natural color (RGB values, right) of the Jack and Laura... more

A new lidar dataset covering 42 km2 northwest of Salmon, Idaho is now available on OpenTopography. This lidar dataset was collected by the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM) for Brian Yanites at Indiana University, Bloomington in order to quantify the impact of a drainage diversion in the late 19th century on landscape processes. The lidar data will be used to map the channel morphology, landslides, and tension cracks that continue to propagate across the landscape to this day within the Dump Creek basin. NCALM is an NSF-funded center that supports the use of airborne... more

A new lidar dataset covering approximately 133 km2 north of Ridgecrest, California, in the southeastern Sierra Nevada and Inyo Mountains, is now available on OpenTopography. This lidar dataset was collected by the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM) for Dr. Roman DiBiase at Pennsylvania State University. The airborne lidar from this study was used to quantify the controls of wildfire, climate, and tectonics on the transition between soil-mantled and bedrock hillslopes. NCALM is an NSF-funded center that supports the use of airborne laser mapping technology (a.k.a. lidar) in... more

The OpenTopography team is pleased to announce the publication of our new open-access article in the journal Remote Sensing: “Statewide USGS 3DEP Lidar Topographic Differencing Applied to Indiana, USA.” In this study, we produced the first ever map of statewide high-resolution topographic change and canopy height models of Indiana. Topographic differencing of multi-temporal topographic data is a powerful technique used to measure natural and anthropogenic change at the Earth’s surface. The differencing results show change from a variety of processes related to the agricultural, forest, river... more
