New NCALM dataset available covering portions of Cedar Mesa and Bears Ears National Monument, Utah

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of a new lidar dataset covering approximately 230 km² covering Cedar Mesa and Bears Ears National Monument, Utah (Shash Jáa Unit). This dataset was collected for a study to explore the dynamic impacts of environmental change and biomass harvesting on woodland ecosystems and traditional livelihoods. Structure-from-Motion UAV Dataset at Dry Lake Valley, Central San Andreas Fault

OpenTopography is pleased to release a structure-from-motion small Uncrewed Aerial System (sUAS) dataset that covers 3 km² along the creeping section of the central San Andreas fault. This dataset was collected in October 2017 by Michael Bunds and Nathan Toke from Utah Valley University, Chelsea Scott from Arizona State University, and several undergraduate students in Utah Valley University’s Geospatial Field Methods course.

North Auckland and Canterbury, New Zealand lidar datasets released

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new lidar datasets covering over 10,000 km² of New Zealand. The dataset covering Auckland on the North Island was collected August 2016 to August 2018 and covers the following areas: Auckland CBD, Great Barrier Island, Little Barrier Island, North Shore, Waiheke Island, Wellsford, Whangaparaoa, and Whatipu.

New NCALM datasets in Central Idaho and near Ensenada, Mexico released

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new NCALM lidar datasets. The first is an NCALM Seed Dataset collected for Nate Mitchell at Indiana University, Bloomington. These data were used in a study to measure variations in bedrock cliff morphologies along Boulder Creek, northwest of Salmon, Idaho. The second dataset covers a 2013 landslide adjacent to Salsipuedes Bay, in Baja California, Mexico as well as Punta Morro, where Ensenada's science cluster is located, hosting the campuses of CICESE, UNAM and UABC.

New NCALM datasets capturing post-fire landscapes in California, and Hurricane Harvey impacts in Texas

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of four new NCALM Seed datasets covering areas of California, and one hurricane rapid response project in Texas. These datasets were collected by NCALM, an NSF-funded center that supports the use of airborne laser mapping technology (a.k.a. lidar) in the scientific community and is jointly operated by the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston and the Department of Earth and Planetary Science, University of California, Berkeley.

OpenTopography bulk downloads migrating to SDSC’s Universal Scale Storage

We have recently migrated hosting of OpenTopography’s bulk data from the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) data storage cloud (OpenStack Object Storage) to their Universal Scale Storage (USS) service offering. USS is a managed service of Qumulo’s hybrid cloud file storage provided by SDSC that offers better performance and is highly scalable.

OpenTopography Collaboration Awarded New 4-Year Grant

Over 100 new 3DEP datasets available through OpenTopography

New lidar datasets throughout the US have been added to the publicly accessible, USGS 3DEP Amazon Web Services (AWS) bucket, and are now available through OpenTopography. This latest release expands the coverage by an additional 108 datasets, or 3.7 trillion new lidar points.

Hamilton, Waikato and Motueka River Valley, Tasman, New Zealand datasets released

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new lidar datasets covering over 800 km² in New Zealand. Lidar was captured in January 2020 around the region of Hamilton City on the North Island. Another dataset was collected over the South Island between November 2018 and February 2019, and covers the Motueka River Valley, Betty's Beach and Eve's Valley.

Two new Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) datasets released

OpenTopography is pleased to announce the release of two new lidar datasets covering over 1200 km² in New Zealand. Lidar was captured in January 2020 around the region of Balclutha, Otago on the South Island. Another dataset was collected between December 2018 and April 2019, and covers portions of the Bay of Plenty on the North Island.
